The Challenge

How do you design LED wall visuals that elevate real-time news storytelling and reinforce a bold broadcast rebrand?

RTP, Portugal’s national broadcaster, challenged Itsanashow Studio to activate its rebrand in-studio — turning the newsroom studio into a branded motion canvas.

Our task? Extend the broadcast identity beyond motion graphics into the physical space through immersive LED wall templates and augmented reality animations. From RTP1’s mainstream news to RTP3’s continuous coverage and 360º’s analytical depth, each program required a visual system tailored to its tone.

The challenge was to design immersive visuals that deliver impact without distraction, blending brand identity, motion graphics, and live information seamlessly.

The Solution

A modular broadcast motion system that turned the newsroom studio into an active brand surface blending light, color, and depth — elevating the visual language of live TV news graphics, creating an engaging on-air experience.

🔹 RTP1 – A Global Outlook with Editorial Rhythm
For RTP1, the channel with the widest audience, we designed a visual narrative centered on global connection. We introduced a world map with Portugal at the core — like a live radar scanning the globe for stories. Fluid gradients and subtle time-of-day color transitions, from morning tones to evening hues, echoed the rhythm of the day and reinforced the opener’s design language.

🔹 RTP3 – Depth and Dimension
For RTP3’s continuous news coverage, we built a layered visual system using geometric forms, lighting gradients, and volumetric shapes. This created a sense of depth and structure within the set — adding movement and dimension while maintaining a modern, editorial look that complemented the anchor's on-screen presence.

🔹 360º – Late Night Light
For RTP’s nightly in-depth newscast, we developed a refined, minimalist identity shaped by subtle motion and a sophisticated palette of purples, delicate neon accents, and warm orange lighting. Elegant graphic elements echoed the program’s analytical depth and conversational pace — reinforcing its unique editorial voice while enhancing the immersive, late-night studio atmosphere.

🔹 Augmented Reality that Blends In
To enrich live news delivery, we designed and animated five real-time AR moments that seamlessly integrate with the LED wall motion system. These 3D animations — from bar charts and spotlighted buildings to football finals and election visuals — brought key stories to life. Designed to amplify editorial focus, they aligned with the overall broadcast identity while enhancing viewer engagement and spatial storytelling.

Set Design Deliverables
  • 34 custom-designed and animated LED wall templates, tailored to the editorial needs and technical specs of RTP1, RTP3, and 360º
  • 5 real-time augmented reality animations for live news storytelling
  • A scalable visual and motion system built for multiple studio formats, lighting setups, and broadcast workflows

Impact

This wasn’t just a visual refresh — it was a full translation of RTP’s broadcast identity into the physical space through thoughtful spatial motion design.

By extending the brand’s motion principles into the studio environment, we built a consistent visual system across channels and formats. The LED wall and AR elements became essential storytelling tools — creating coherence, reinforcing editorial clarity, and giving each program a distinct, recognisable presence.

Through light, color, and motion, we brought the brand to life on set — enhancing audience engagement and delivering a bold yet cohesive identity that aligned with RTP’s future-facing vision.
